Study Identifies Human Protein that Can Build and Edit Other Human Proteins

A new study shows that new evidence suggests a human protein can both build new protein and edit other proteins–something which has never thought to be possible–without the benefit of a DNA blueprint or mRNA (messenger RNA). Lead study author Peter Shen stated, “This surprising discovery reflects how incomplete our understanding of biology is.” The postdoctoral fellow in biochemistry with the University of Utah continues, “Nature is capable of more than we realize.”
