While you may hear about it, most humans do not really know what Lyme disease. Perhaps if you have a pet, you might have encountered it; because Lyme disease is, as the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention describes it, the most commonly reported tick-borne illness in America. The data shows that roughly 30,000 cases are reported every year; most of these cases are reported in the Eastern U.S. Still, the CDC believes that the numbers are only a fraction of what might be the real numbers.
In fact, the CDC claims there could be as many as ten times more cases than is reported now.
