It has been long believed that quasars have a black hole with superpowers. They are massively powerful, basically. But a new study from researchers at Yale University indicates that the exact opposite may be true. In this study they found evidence of a quasar dimming its light, which means it is losing power.
“We’ve looked at hundreds of thousands of quasars at this point, and now we’ve found one that has switched off. This may tell us something about their lifetimes,” explains lead study author Professor Megan Urry from the Yale Center for Astronomy & Astrophysics.
