Strong cast helps refresh 'As You Like It'

"As You Like It" is one of Shakespeare's best-loved romantic comedies, and also one of his busiest and most wide-ranging plays. Its moods meander all over the map, merry to somber, spanning sinister court intrigue and rowdy rustic comedy, poetic philosophizing and the unbridled exuberance of young love. Even the play's tangle of romances encompasses both genuine passion and outright nonsense.

The Alley Theatre's current production suggests director Gregory Body decided to go for broke with the play's extremes, pushing a bit further in all directions.
