Sponsor of Maine GMO label law opposes bill to ditch trigger

The sponsor of a Maine law that requires food producers to label foods containing genetically modified ingredients says state lawmakers are misguided in their effort to repeal the law's trigger provision.

Former State Rep. Lance Harvell, a Farmington Republican, sponsored a bill that requires the labels if five contiguous states also pass labeling laws. Gov. Paul LePage signed the bill into law in January 2014.
