SpaceX eyes helium breach as cause of Falcon 9 explosion

SpaceX said today that a preliminary review is pointing to breach in a helium system as the cause of a Sept. 1 launchpad explosion that destroyed a Falcon 9 rocket and its satellite cargo.

Complicating the investigation is that the entire event from first sign of trouble to "loss of data is about 93 seconds or less than 1/10 of a second," SpaceX said in a statement released today.
