Son of Teacher In Space Christa McAuliffe Leads Tributes to Lives Lost on 30th Anniversary of Challenger Explosion That Left Seven Killed

Thirty years ago Christa McAuliffe boarded the Challenger spacecraft to become the first teacher in space, but seconds after liftoff, disaster struck, killing her and the six astronauts on board.

On Thursday, McAuliffe's son Scott, 39, and dozens of other educators who competed against the high school instructor in the 1984 "Teacher-in-Space" competition, paid tribute to the lives lost in ceremonies held across the country, the Associated Press reports.
