Soldiers at Risk of Functional Impairment Due To Overdoses of Narcotic Painkillers

The American fighting force run a risk of functional impairment due to prolonged use of opioids to relieve chronic pain. Studies on the subject indicate that nearly 44% soldiers returning home from war have been taking opioids for three months while nearly 15% others have used them in the last month.

Psychologist Robin Toblin at the Walter Reed Institute of Research confesses that the percentage is very high as compared to 4% civilians using opioids out of 26% suffering with chronic pain. The study has been published in the journal JAMA Internal Medicine on Monday.
