SMN Weekly – Sea Lions Being Rescued in San Francisco

Sea lions being recovered from a San Francisco highway on February 11 are at the moment being recovered from its dangerous journey inland. For the past five weeks volunteers have desperately been trying to nourish and nurse over a hundred sea lions that were found stranded along the state’s beaches. The mystery is no doubt threatening California’s most lovable sea creatures.

For around three or more times a day, volunteers insert tubes filled with pureed herring as well as fish oil down the pups’ esophagi in order to deliver a chicken soup of the sea directly to their stomachs. They don’t keep them from locking their jaws as they want them to remain wild.
