SMN Weekly – Researchers Found an Aggressive Strain of HIV in Cuba

Scientists have found a powerful strain of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) in Cuba. They say that it has potential to make progress to AIDS so fast that patients might not even know they have been infected before symptoms appear.

This new Cuban variant of HIV is named as a recombinant version of the virus that can happen if a person has unprotected sex with multiple infected partners and as a result suffer multiple strains of the HIV virus. All the strains recombine within a person to create a new variant.
