The European Space Agency successfully ended its Automated Transfer Vehicle mission to the International Space Station with fireworks on the unmanned vehicle’s re-entry, as the ATV 5 capsule disintegrated in Earth’s atmosphere.

The ATV program, which had been designed specifically to run cargo and experiments to the ISS and leave with trash to be disposed of, is being discontinued by the ESA.
