Small earthquakes shake Northern and Southern California communities

HEMET, Calif. (AP) — Small earthquakes hundreds of miles apart have rattled communities east of Los Angeles and San Francisco.

The largest of the quakes was a magnitude-3.7 temblor that struck at 12:39 a.m. Wednesday just north of Hemet, about 85 miles east of Los Angeles. It was downgraded from an initial estimate of 3.9. The U.S. Geological Survey says the quake was 10 miles deep.
