Patients with obstructive sleep apnea stop breathing — due to a partial collapse of the breathing airway as the neck muscles relax during sleep — until a panicked reflex breath awakens them.

The condition robs sufferers of restful sleep and has been linked to health problems and new finding suggests those men who are affected by sleep apnea may be at higher risk to suffer from depression.
