The answers to how this landlubber of a pirate series was made are obvious at first glance: On the cheap, and with one of those largely unknown-in-the-States international casts of indeterminate talent — with the major exception of John Malkovich, who sometimes looks as bored playing Blackbeard as you're likely to be watching the show. The harder answer to divine is who exactly this production is made for. It's too violent for children, and too childish and listless for adults. Let it sail into the sunset without you.
Friends fans can gorge with this five-night marathon, running (with a few Hot in Cleveland interruptions) from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. each night from Saturday through Wednesday. If you just want one example of the show at its best, consider "The One Where Everybody Finds Out" (Saturday, 7:43 pm).
