Siding Spring particle, just half a millimeter across, could damage spacecraft

Comet Siding Spring is forcing NASA to move all three of its Mars orbiters (two are already there and one is set to enter orbit on September 21) to the opposite side of the Red Planet when the comet is most likely to fly by.

On October 19, Siding Spring’s nucleus will miss Mars by approximately 82,000 miles, but it’s not the nucleus that has NASA engineers concerned.
