The classic children's program will debut its 46th season on HBO on Saturday Jan. 16 at 9:00 a.m. ET/PT. The new season will feature shorter 30-minute episodes (as opposed to hour-long ones), new opening and closing songs, updated sets and a "Smart Cookies" segment with new cast member Nina. HBO will air two new episodes back-to-back on Jan. 16, and one new and one rerun back-to-back on the following Saturdays. Guests for the new season will include Gwen Stefani, Pharrell, Nick Jonas, Sara Bareilles, Alan Cumming, Tracee Ellis Ross and Gina Rodriguez.
Sesame Workshop announced in August that the show, which had aired on PBS and its member stations since 1969, would air its next five seasons on HBO. As noted when the deal was announced, the 46th season of the show will be available on PBS next fall.
