U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer has backed growing calls for an outright ban on any substance on public sale that contains beta-methylphenethylamine, or BMPEA. Pressure is growing on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to take a tougher stance against the use of the compound, which is often passed off as a natural extract despite being wholly laboratory-made and potentially dangerous.
