An interview with filmmaker Ava DuVernay, whose movie “Selma” is focused on the events of spring 1965 in Alabama, a key time in the civil-rights battle.

“I don’t know how I did it,” said filmmaker Ava DuVernay, thinking back to the days of shooting the landmark civil-rights drama “Selma.” “I know that I did just feel prepared to do it ... Looking back, there wasn’t a lot of fear around it.”
