Security increased in Vienna after alert of potential attack

Police in Vienna, Austria, have stepped up security precautions after an intelligence alert sent to numerous European capitals warned of the potential for a violent attack between Christmas and the New Year.

“In the lead-up to Christmas, a friendly intelligence service sent a warning to numerous European capitals saying potential bomb or gun attacks could take place in areas with large crowds between Christmas and New Year,” Vienna police said in a statement.
