The secret to robust hair growth: plucking hair out, study finds

Researchers at the University of California were amazed to find that when 200 hairs are plucked, it grows back up to six times as many. Why so? The current theory is that if hairs are forcibly removed from one area or patch of hair, it triggers distress along the scalp into a burst of regeneration to compensate for the hairs plucked out.
