SeaWorld San Diego has surpassed its record for sea lion rescues this year, as the state appears headed toward a historic high for sea lion strandings.

As of Monday, SeaWorld has rescued 505 marine mammals including 487 sea lions, surpassing its previous record of 474 marine mammal rescues in 1983, spokesman Dave Koontz said.
