American astronaut Scott Kelly will lift off to the International Space Station (ISS) on March 27, 2015, from a space station situated in Kazakhstan. With the launch, Kelly will become the first American astronaut to spend a year on space station. Mikhail Kornienko, a Russian cosmonaut, will give company to the retired United States Navy Captain.
Before this mission, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has never sent a single astronaut to spend an entire year on the space station. Valeri Polyakov, a Russian former cosmonaut, has spent about 437 days aboard the Mir space station. His mission ended on March 1995.
