Scientists Theorize A Moon With a Hotter, More Active Core

For a long time, scientists have debated what might have been the source magnetized rocks from the moon since it does not seem to have its own magnetic field. A new study, however, suggests that Earth’s only natural satellite may have had, at one point, a much more complex and active core.

Massachusetts Institute of Technology planetary scientist Benjamin Weiss told Discovery News “We see this super strong field and then it just drops off a cliff. Everywhere points to this large-scale geophysical process.”
