Scientists find Way to Use Baking Soda to Capture Carbon Dioxide

Scientists said they have discovered a way to utilize baking soda found in most grocery stores to capture carbon dioxide. According to a team from the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, Harvard University and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, they have developed a new type of carbon capture medium comprising of core-shell microcapsules.

Core-shell microcapsules consist of a very permeable polymer shell, a fluid that contains sodium carbonate solution, which reacts with and absorbs carbon dioxide. Normally, sodium carbonate is known as the main ingredient in baking soda.
