Super-fast computing and thinner devices could be possible in near future as the researchers from the University of Texas have developed a one-atom-thin silicon transistor. This single-atom thick layer of silicon has been termed as silicene.
They noticed some outstanding properties in the silicon that can be very useful for conducting electricity. But at the same time they have noted that dealing with this material was nearly impossible till now. It is difficult to work with silicene as it becomes quite unstable when exposed to air.
