Scarlett Johansson heading to TV in 'Custom of the Country,' 4 other shows she could have been in

The film actress ("The Avengers," "Lucy") will star in and executive produce "The Custom of the Country," reports Deadline. The eight-episode period series, which will be written by Christopher Hampton ("Atonement," "Dangerous Liasons"), follows the ruthless heroine Undine Spragg (Johansson) as she attempts to climb the social ladder in New York City.

The series is based on Pulitzer Prize winner Edith Wharton's novel of the same name. The author's other book-to-screen adaptations include "Age of Innocence" and "The House of Mirth."
