So far on the fourth season of “Scandal,” there have been numerous ups and downs – alliances betrayed, love triangles unsolved, and a threats of murder around every corner. So, really, it’s a typical season of “Scandal.” But one of the more interesting directions has been that of White House Chief of Staff Cyrus Beene, played by Jeff Perry. After losing his husband at the end of season 3, Cyrus has spent most of this season getting played by a prostitute who’s working for scheming politician Rebecca North (Portia de Rossi). Last night, on the midseason finale, Cyrus’s exploits caught up with him and found him as the center of a good ‘ol fashion White House sex scandal. It led to two of the most memorable Cyrus scenes to date – one with Fitz (Tony Goldwyn), who he tried to resign from and another with Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington), who gave him a dose of his own verbal medicine – and convinced him to get back to his old self. Speakeasy caught up with Perry earlier today from his home in Los Angeles, where he confirmed that Cyrus is on the upswing.
I pray so. [Creator] Shonda Rhimes loves all her characters and she’s going to figure out a way for Cyrus to stay on this side of a flatline, I think. Cyrus will make it. But he’s very challenged right now.
