Saudi court sentences former soldier to 9 years in prison for joining IS group in Syria

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia – Semi-official Saudi news websites say a former soldier has been found guilty of fighting for the Islamic State group in Syria and has been sentenced to nine years in prison.

A court in Jiddah found the soldier guilty of taking part in training and violent operations with the Islamic State group in Syria. Saudi Arabia is part of the U.S.-led coalition carrying out airstrikes against the group in Syria and Iraq.
