Saturn's Moon Titan Possibly Harbors Methane Based Life Forms

Researchers from Cornell University have modeled a new methane-based form of life which, they believe, could thrive in the cold and harsh environment of Saturn’s moon, Titan. It can reproduce as well as metabolize just like the oxygen based life forms on Earth. The seas of Titan are filled with liquid methane and the researchers of the new study opine that they probably form a haven for these methane based organisms. The study has been detailed in the journal Science Advances.

The cell membranes of these methane based organisms are composed of small organic nitrogen compounds which can thrive in liquid methane having extremely low temperatures.
