Sarkozy tipped to lead party for presidency

PARIS: France’s former president Nicolas Sarkozy was on Saturday tipped to win the leadership of his right-wing UMP in party elections, a position seen as a potential springboard back into high office.

The UMP, the political heir to the party founded by Charles de Gaulle after World War II, is hoping to move on from bitter political infighting and financial scandals that have pushed it to the verge of collapse.
