Sampling finds no Asian carp in Muskingum

ZANESVILLE – After sampling more than 100 sites along the Muskingum River in June, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources did not find any of the invasive species of bighead or silver Asian carp, according to its findings.

Water samples taken from the Muskingum River earlier this year showed traces of Asian carp environmental DNA. Fish shed cells, blood and tissue as they move through the water column. This material, called eDNA, is suspended in the water and can be collected as part of a surface water sample.
