WHO's warning about hearing loss may not be music to your ears

People who use personal audio players should limit their use to an hour a day and turn down the volume to prevent permanent hearing loss, the World Health Organisation said.

The UN agency said young people were particularly at risk. Almost half of all 12- to 35-year-olds listened to their personal audio devices or mobile phones at unsafe volumes, it said. About 40 per cent of young people were also exposed to damaging sound levels at bars and sporting events.
