Robotic ‘Dolphins’ Helping Scientists Understand Melting of Ice Sheets in West Antarctica

An international study led by the California Institute of Technology used robot ocean gliders to measure the salinity, temperature and oxygen levels of the depths of the Weddell Sea in West Antarctica.

The gliders are about 2 meters (6 feet 6 inches) long and are helping scientists understand climate change by shedding light on the mechanism behind Antarctica's declining glaciers.
