The simulated infants, complete with crying functionality when they ‘need’ to be burped, changed or fed, were given to more than 1000 13 to 15-year-old girls from 28 schools across WA to assess the impact of the ‘Virtual Infant Parenting’ (VIP) program.

A further 1500 girls from 29 other WA schools were not given the babies as a control, and the researchers had access to all of the girls’ de-identified medical records until they were 20 years old.
