Risks vary with age for sleep-related infant deaths

Even when parents take steps to remove unsafe items from their bed, bed-sharing remains a risk factor for SIDS and other sleep-related causes of infant deaths, a new study suggests.

Nearly 4,000 infant deaths occur each year from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, unknown causes, and accidental suffocation and strangulation, and the new study's analysis of sleep environment risk factors shows how these risks can change during an infant's first year of life.
