Local authorities in an eastern German state said Monday they are considering changing the rules on where demonstrations can be held after a village mayor resigned his post following threats from far-right protesters.

Markus Nierth stepped down as honorary mayor of Troeglitz in Saxony-Anhalt, about 160 kilometers (100 miles) south of Berlin, last week because local authorities refused to ban a march organized by members of the far-right National Democratic Party.
