Richard Linklater’s “Boyhood” was named best film Sunday by the Los Angeles Film Critics Assn. The coming-of-age film shot over a 12-year period also won awards for director Linklater, lead actress Patricia Arquette and editing.

J.K. Simmons won the supporting-actor award for "Whiplash," and Agata Kulesza was an unexpected supporting-actress winner for the Polish drama "Ida," as the Los Angeles Film Critics Assn. announced its first wave of 2014 awards winners on Sunday.
