RI’s Mat Franco wins $1M, Boston’s Sons of Serendip take 4th in ‘America’s Got Talent’

A win was in the cards for Johnston, R.I., native Mat Franco Wednesday night on the finale of NBC’s “America’s Got Talent.” Johnston, a magician and 2010 University of Rhode Island graduate, took home a $1 million grand prize on the show’s season 9 finale.

Boston’s Sons of Serendip came in fourth. The four Boston University alumni — vocalist Micah Christian, pianist and guitarist Cordaro Rodriguez, harpist Mason Morton, and cellist and vocalist Kendall Ramseur — formed only a few months ago to try out for the reality talent show.
