Revolution and rebirth at Studio A

On the day it opened, 50 years ago Sunday, stars and starry-eyed onlookers "flocked en masse" for a glimpse at the world's most technologically advanced recording studio, as The Tennessean described it at the time. The surrounding three-story office center signaled a game-changing investment in Nashville's music industry.

Virtuoso guitarist and producer Chet Atkins, understated as always, said the center would "make better records," and then he pivoted to something he considered just as important: "It's a good manifestation of the faith the music industry has in Nashville as a recording center."
