Review: 'The Maze Runner' Breaks From The Pack

As I’ve written before, there is a tendency to view the rash of high-profile Young Adult Fantasy adaptations in the somewhat skewed lens of Twilight and The Hunger Games. Point being, those films succeeded partially because they were unlike anything else in the marketplace at that time. Moreover, they succeeded at what amounted to the top-tier levels of what a would-be blockbuster franchise could accomplish, either domestically or worldwide. Just as we shouldn’t expect Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance to perform like Iron Man 2, nor should we expect The Maze Runner to come close to the box office riches earned by the various adventures of Bella Swan and Katniss Everdeen.
