There are a couple of obvious points to be taken from "The Equalizer," the new film adaptation of the 1980s television show about a retired intelligence agent who helps people in trouble.
First off, any character played by Denzel Washington is smarter than you, not afraid of you and -- in this case -- in possession of a moral compass normally reserved for holy men living on mountaintops. The audience would do practically anything for a moment of his time or a kind word. Anything.
