Return of El Nino Raises Concerns, Questions

Climatologist have recently announced the official return of El Nino after a full five year hiatus. While El Nino is generally associated with Pacific Ocean fluctuations, National Hurricane Center meteorologist Dennis Feltgen warns that the absence of the weather system and its seemingly weaker influence over the Atlantic coast is no reason to underestimate hurricane season this year.

He says, “El Niño is known to act to suppress tropical activity in the Atlantic, but it’s only one factor that influences the overall hurricane season activity. Even if the 2015 season does see below-average tropical cyclone activity, it only takes one storm hitting you to make it a bad year.”
