In a new discovery, researchers have spotted fish and other aquatic animals living beneath the Ross Ice Shelf, which is several hundred meters thick ice shelf in Antarctica. According to the researchers, the aquatic animals have been found beneath a roof of ice 740 meters thick.
The researchers found a tiny translucent fish when a camera-equipped robot was digging deep into the Ross Ice Shelf. The researchers from Northern Illinois University have been working in the region on a project 'Whillans Ice Stream Subglacial Access Research Drilling (WISSARD)'.
