Ordinary metals have been bombarded with lasers by researchers in order to make new self-cleaning surfaces that are super-hydrophobic.

According to scientists at the University of Rochester in New York, the new surfaces are absorbent of light and might be utilized for durable, low maintenance solar collectors and other applications.
