Research Team Proves Link Between LDL Cholesterol and Aortic Valve Stenosis

A team of scientists have recently published a study in JAMA which supports the hypothesis that there is a causal relationship between aortic valve stenosis and higher levels of “bad” LDL cholesterol. Aortic valve stenosis is a type of aortic valve disease characterized by at least one of the two valves narrowing which restricts blood flow from the heart.

The study discusses that aortic valve disease is the most common form of heart valve disease in North America and in Europe. It is also the most reason why patients may need to replace an aortic valve.
