'Red Tent' makes one woman more than a Bible footnote

If you remember your Old Testament, even just from long-ago Sunday School, you know the story of Isaac, born to 100-year-old Abraham, and Isaac’s son Jacob, who left the family after cheating older twin Esau out of his birthright. And you surely know about Jacob’s son Joseph, his father’s favorite, and Joseph’s coat of many colors.

One thing these, and so many other biblical figures, have in common is that they are men. Women have their moments in the Old Testament (Esther even got a book, and the holiday of Purim), but others are barely footnotes.
