‘Reasons to Be Happy,’ by Neil LaBute

The last time I saw this combustible couple was four years ago on Broadway, where they were the main characters in Neil LaBute’s “reasons to be pretty.” A prickly but compassionate comedy, it marked a turning point in the career of Mr. LaBute, a dramatist and filmmaker best known for savage portraits of selfish men, and it was nominated for a Tony for best play.
