A Rare Mutation Can Lower Cholesterol, Say Researchers

Medical researchers informed that a rare mutation in a single gene that was targeted by Merck & Co.'s cardiovascular drug Zetia might help lower cholesterol and reduce the risk of a heart attack by almost half.

The study that could explain Zetia's ability to prevent heart attack death in most of the people with high cholesterol will be presented next week, said researchers.
