Out of the millions of butterflies on exhibit at the Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University, a museum volunteer spotted one that immediately stood out. A museum volunteer for five years, Chris Johnson discovered a rare butterfly that is exactly one half male and one half female.
Johnson discovered the butterfly one day in October, as he was completing his final task of the day – cleaning out the Butterflies! exhibit pupa chamber. The pupa chamber is where chrysalises and cocoons are held until the soon-to-be butterflies and moths emerge.
