Racial Life Expectancy Gaps Narrow in Some Parts of US, Study

Gaps in life expectancy between blacks and whites in the United States as a whole have narrowed since the 1990s, but in some places, such as the District of Columbia, large disparities remain, a team of epidemiologists has found.

From 1990 through 2009, the difference in life expectancy at birth between blacks and whites shrank by 2.7 years for males and 1.7 years for females.
